At the height of his fame as an opera composer, Verdi gave the world and himself a gift of his own when he learnt of the death of Gioacchino Rossini in 1868. He encouraged six other Italian composers to write a joint requiem with him, each with one movement. He contributed a Libera me. When the poet Alessandro Manzoni died in 1873, Verdi wrote all the remaining movements himself and brought his Messa da Requiem to the concert stage, an exceptional work for him, but also a monumental milestone in music history.

The Berliner Konzert Chor was founded on 13 November 1954 and is celebrating its 70th anniversary with its first concert in the 2024/25 season.  We would like to inspire our audience with this outstanding musical masterpiece at a very special performance venue, the great hall of the Philharmonie, where the choir has regularly performed very successfully over many decades. We would like to expressly thank the Humboldt University Choir and the Embassy Singers for performing this anniversary concert with us. We look forward to your visit and your participation.
